Running the Installation CD

  1. Change in BIOS the Drive Boot Order to: Boot from  CD/DVD
  2. Insert the Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy CD-ROM
    1. Start with the First Option: Install Ubuntu Server
      1. Follow the Instructions on the Screen
        1. Choose language
          1. Choose your Language and Country
        2. Configure the keyboard
          1. Follow instructions
          2. If other keyboard then latin:
            1. Ubuntu Installer Main Menu:
            2. Alt+Shift (default)
        3. Detect and mount CD-Rom
        4. Load debconf preconfiguration file
        5. Load installer components from CD
        6. Detect network hardware
        7. Configure the network
          1. Enter Hostname: t3
        8. Setup / Configure the clock
        9. Detect disks and all other hardware
        10. Partition disks
          1. If needed free / delete partitiones following the screen otherwise
          2. Enter the Partition size
            if you are running also i.e. Windows Enter the Size of the Windows Partition, the rest will be used for UBUNTU
            1. Finish partitioning and write changes to disk - <Yes>
            2. Formating: Write the changes to disks? - <Yes>
          3. Partitions formating
        11. Install the base system
        12. Setup User and Password
          1. Enter the Admin Real Name - T3 Admin
          2. Enter the Username - t3admin
          3. Enter the password - "Choose one by yourself!" (Keep it!) 
          4. Renter the just given password
          5. (8.10) Private Directory - NO
          6. (8.10) Http Proxy - blank for none
          7. Attention it might take long time - please wait!
          8. Install security updates automatically
        13. Configure the package manager
          1. Can usually stay blank when using no Proxy
        14. Software selection:
          1. Choose software to install:
            1. DNS Server
            2. LAMP Server
            3. Mail Server
            4. OpenSSH Server
            5. PostgreSQL Server
            6. Print Server
            7. Samba File Server
            8. Tomcat Java Server
            9. Virtual Machine host
          2. Configure mysql-server-5.0
            1. Password for "root": "type your own" (Keep it!)
            2. Repeat password
            3. In 8.10 the next steps are skipped!
          3. Postfix Configuration
            1. General type of mail configuration: Internet Site
            2. System Mail Name: in our case > t3pack.net
              Attention: Needs to be a fully qualified Domain Name
              It should be registered with a Domain Registrar
        15. Build LTSP chroot (skipped)
        16. Manually partition a hard drive (skipped)
        17. Install the GRUB boot loader on a hard disk
          1. If you are running Ubuntu Server parallel to an existing Windows Version:
            Install the GRUB boot loader to the master boot record - <yes>
            otherwise <no>
        18. Install the LILO boot Loader on a hard disk (skipped if chosen 17)
          1. if appearing - <no>
        19. Continue without boot Loader (skipped if chosen 17 or 18)
        20. Finish the installation
        21. Change debconf priority
        22. Check the CD-ROM(s) integrity
        23. Save debug logs
        24. Execute a shell
        25. Eject a CD from the dive
        26. Abort the installation
      2. Remove Disk from Drive
      3. The Server is rebooting
        1. Choose the first Option:
      4. Check the screen display for any errors - there should be none :-)
