- Change in BIOS the Drive Boot Order to: Boot from CD/DVD
- Insert the Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy CD-ROM
- Start with the First Option: Install Ubuntu Server
- Follow the Instructions on the Screen
- Choose language
- Choose your Language and Country
- Configure the keyboard
- Follow instructions
- If other keyboard then latin:
- Ubuntu Installer Main Menu:
- Alt+Shift (default)
- Detect and mount CD-Rom
- Load debconf preconfiguration file
- Load installer components from CD
- Detect network hardware
- Configure the network
- Enter Hostname: t3
- Setup / Configure the clock
- Detect disks and all other hardware
- Partition disks
- If needed free / delete partitiones following the screen otherwise
- Enter the Partition size
if you are running also i.e. Windows Enter the Size of the Windows Partition, the rest will be used for UBUNTU - Finish partitioning and write changes to disk - <Yes>
- Formating: Write the changes to disks? - <Yes>
- Partitions formating
- Install the base system
- Setup User and Password
- Enter the Admin Real Name - T3 Admin
- Enter the Username - t3admin
- Enter the password - "Choose one by yourself!" (Keep it!)
- Renter the just given password
- (8.10) Private Directory - NO
- (8.10) Http Proxy - blank for none
- Attention it might take long time - please wait!
- Install security updates automatically
- Configure the package manager
- Can usually stay blank when using no Proxy
- Software selection:
- Choose software to install:
- DNS Server
- LAMP Server
- Mail Server
- OpenSSH Server
- PostgreSQL Server
- Print Server
- Samba File Server
- Tomcat Java Server
- Virtual Machine host
- Configure mysql-server-5.0
- Password for "root": "type your own" (Keep it!)
- Repeat password
- In 8.10 the next steps are skipped!
- Postfix Configuration
- General type of mail configuration: Internet Site
- System Mail Name: in our case > t3pack.net
Attention: Needs to be a fully qualified Domain Name
It should be registered with a Domain Registrar
- Build LTSP chroot (skipped)
- Manually partition a hard drive (skipped)
- Install the GRUB boot loader on a hard disk
- If you are running Ubuntu Server parallel to an existing Windows Version:
Install the GRUB boot loader to the master boot record - <yes>
otherwise <no>
- Install the LILO boot Loader on a hard disk (skipped if chosen 17)
- if appearing - <no>
- Continue without boot Loader (skipped if chosen 17 or 18)
- Finish the installation
- Change debconf priority
- Check the CD-ROM(s) integrity
- Save debug logs
- Execute a shell
- Eject a CD from the dive
- Abort the installation
- Remove Disk from Drive
- The Server is rebooting
- Choose the first Option:
- Check the screen display for any errors - there should be none :-)
